PTC strives to peak a student’s interest while they’re in the sophomore year of high school, with actual enrollment taking place in the junior or senior years. There are no fees involved. There are certain requirements, including grade point average, which allow pre- apprentices to attend training at the local technical institute during their school day. PTC is a two- year pre- apprenticeship program that includes not only classroom training but also the opportunity for summer on- the- job (OJT) training. PTC’s OJT experiences provide the opportunity to earn student elective credits and valuable resume experience. Pre- apprentices can essentially earn up to one year’s worth of credits toward future apprenticeship training, which can lead to a journeyman certification and better jobs with great pay.
